041 Monica Ashour: The Hermeneutics of the Gift

The Mystery of Parenthood is a show on RED-C Catholic Radio, headquartered in College Station, Texas. On Tuesday, February 27, 2018, Monica Ashour, the founder of TOBET, the Theology of the Body Evangelization Team, joined Trey and Stephanie Cashion once again to share her expertise on all things Theology of the Body and how these truths can be taught to children. Monica's chosen topic was "The Hermeneutics of the Gift," the way of understanding or interpreting the gift of our bodies within the context of them being made in the image and likeness of God. Monica began by discrediting the modern cartesian way of understanding the human person. As human beings, we are not separately body and soul, but those two characteristics of ours are wholly united to make what Pope St. John Paul II would call "body-persons." These "body-persons" are what God made in his own image and likeness, and Monica explained how we know this. Our ability to give reciprocal gifts of self in community is what proves that we are made in the image and likeness of God.
