109 Monica Ashour: Importance of Sibling Relationships
Monday Nov 25, 2019
Monday Nov 25, 2019
On Tuesday, November 19, Trey talked with regular guest Monica Ashour, co-founder of TOBET (Theology of the Body Evangelization Team) about family life and specifically, the importance of sibling relationships, based off of a compelling piece by Mary Eberstadt on how identity politics emerged out of family breakdown. One of the tragedies that Eberstadt identifies is how many more Westerners now grown up without siblings and what that loss has meant for the strength and pliability of social bonds. There are many benefits to having brothers and sisters, like learning social skills, learning empathy from one another, and gaining a better understanding the opposite sex, for example. A study has found that the likelihood of divorce later in life is correlated to the number of siblings one has. The higher the number of siblings, the lower the statistical occurrence of divorce. To hear more about the significance of siblings, their relationships in the family life, and Monica tie it all into the Theology of the Body, listen to this episode; you won’t be disappointed!
