050 Signs of Effective Families
Friday Jun 01, 2018
Friday Jun 01, 2018
On Tuesday, May 29, 2018, host Trey and Stephanie Cashion talked about what Catholic families ought to keep in mind in order to raise effective and frutiful families. The pieces of advice that the Cashions offered included making the family a foundation of life and a reflection of the love and mercy of God. Our memory this week was Ephesians 3:14-19, "For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." 049 The Family in the Modern World
Wednesday May 16, 2018
Wednesday May 16, 2018
On Tuesday, May 15, 2018, host Trey Cashion discussed the Pope St. John Paul II's important apostolic exhortation of 1984, Familiaris Consortio. Trey takes up the message of Part 3 on the role of the family in the modern world. He brings out the three functions that the Holy Father identifies for the family: to guard, reveal, and communicate the Catholic Faith for the world and for future generations. He then went on offer practical and ordinary ways that good Catholic families carry out these functions and are probably already doing so. Purposeful parenting is guided by these functions and they should guide the decisions that mothers and fathers make in raising their children. 048 Marking the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker
Wednesday May 02, 2018
Wednesday May 02, 2018
On Tuesday, May 1, 2018, host Trey Cashion discussed the significance and historical background to the day's feast: St. Joseph the Worker. Pope Pius XII established the feast of St. Joseph the Worker in 1955 in hopes of highlighting the Christian dignity of labor, to give all working people a patron, and to counter the influence of atheistic communism's International Workingman's Day. Trey explained why work is good and how it makes it possible for men and women to acheive excellence through the use of their talents. At the same time, St. Joseph the Worker reminds us that all human beings have a right to work, should be protected from demeaning, desultory labor, and should be able to secure a livelihood sufficient to care for themselves and their families. Our memory verse this week was Genesis 2:15, "The LORD God then took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden, to cultivate and care for it." The topic of this exhortation was "the call to holiness in today's world." Treypaid special attention to the words of the Holy Father that define holiness as living out our union with God in the ordinary events of our lives. Follow the link below to access an English translation of the papal document itself. Our memory verse this week was Hebrews 12:1, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us." 045 Combating Self-Absorption
Wednesday Apr 11, 2018
Wednesday Apr 11, 2018
On Tuesday, April 10, 2018, Trey and Stephanie Cashion decided to share some practical blessings and fruits that they have experienced in marriage and that have come about through a knowledge of the invisible reality of the sacrament. The fruit that was discussed the most was a gradual weeding out of self-absorption through the promotion of selfless service in the family. This attitude of selfless service is essential in the family in order to see our family members not as hindrances but as missions to love as Christ loves His Church. Our memory verse this week was Ephesians 5:25, "Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her."
