The Mystery of Parenthood is a show on RED-C Catholic Radio, headquartered in College Station, Texas. On August 16, 2017, host Trey Cashion had a lively discussion with his guest Dr. Mark Giszczak, Associate Professor of Sacred Scripture at the Augustine Institute in Denver, Colorado. The focus of the conversation was on Sirach 3, especially verses 1-16. Trey and Mark encouraged parents to familiarize themselves with this portion of Scripture because it explains the dynamic of love that should obtain between parents and children when they observe the Fourth Commandment. Consider reading these verses to your children at the same time each day; if possible, have them memorize Sirach 3. This week's Memory Verse is Sirach 3:14. "Kindness to a father will not be forgotten; it will serve as a sin offering--it will take lasting root." When we do a righteous act (e.g. obeying God and honoring our parents) without regard to self, we are atoning for own sin, and more importantly, we participate in Jesus' redemptive work in which he suffered and died in obedience to his father's plan for merciful deliverance of the whole human race. Remember to pray, parent with a purpose, and prepare for God to amaze you!

The Mystery of Parenthood is a show on RED-C Catholic Radio, headquartered in College Station, Texas. Commitment entails a permanent eschewing of other paths and possibilities in order to give one's whole life to one, and only one, other. Tune in to hear Trey's elaboation of theese ideas and how to discern them in your own life in order to re-commit yourself to commitment. Lord God, from You every family in Heaven and on earth takes its name. Father, You are love and life.
Through Your Son, Jesus Christ, born of woman, and through the Holy Spirit, the fountain of divine charity, grant that every family on earth may become for each successive generation a true shrine of life and love.
Grant that Your grace may guide the thoughts and actions of husbands and wives for the good of their families and of all the families in the world.
Grant that the young may find in the family solid support for their human dignity and for their growth in truth and love.
Grant that love, strengthened by the grace of the sacrament of marriage, may prove mightier than all the weaknesses and trials through which our families sometimes pass.
Through the intercession of the Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that the Church may fruitfully carry out her worldwide mission in the family and through the family.
We ask this of You, Who is life, truth and love with the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Mystery of Parenthood is a show on RED-C Catholic Radio, headquartered in College Station, Texas. On 05-24-17, show host Trey Cashion reviewed the topic of the previous four episodes: becoming "One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Family." He then went on to apply a recent address by Pope Francis to Coptic Catholic priests and religious in Egypt. Trey works through the seven temptations that can lead religious life astray. They are the temptation: 1) to let ourselves be led, rather than to lead; 2) to complain constantly; 3) to gossip and envy; 4) to compare ourselves to others; 5) to become like Pharaoh; 6) to individulalism; 7) to keep walking without direction or destination. In doing so, Trey applies the Pope's teaching to the family and the proper attitudes that parents and children should adopt toward one another. The Mystery of Parenthood is a show on RED-C Catholic Radio, headquartered in College Station, Texas. On 04-26-17, show host Trey Cashion discussed the second attribute of what it means to be "One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Family." Citing paragraph 2204 in the Catechism, Trey noted that the family is intended to be a "community of faith, hope, and love." That is a significant reason why it is properly understood as the "domestic church." This episode considered a number of the ways that the spouses and children in the family are called to holiness as well as how this attribute reinforces the family's call to oneness and unity.
